The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)

PUWER regulations require employers to ensure all work equipment is safe for use, maintained in a safe condition and inspected to ensure it is correctly installed and does not subsequently deteriorate.

Work equipment is any machinery, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation for use at work (whether exclusively or not).

Some examples of equipment which we inspect under PUWER: pallet trucks, storage racking, power presses, escalators, ladders, working at height equipment (harnesses, lanyards, lifelines etc), guarding / barriers, dock levellers, roller shutter doors and more.
